Description:
This painting could be the worst painting experience in my career. But, thanks to various events it is part of my private collection and I’m glad of it.
While I was living in Tangier I wanted to paint some Moroccan culture scenes. One day I found a young man who accepted posing for this painting after discussing a nice salary. Then we took a walk around the medina quarter and I bought him some traditional clothes for the painting.
He was a completely disaster. He never attended posing and it was me who had always to go and look for him. So at the end I decided to finish the painting using my imagination.
In the following exhibition I had in Morocco I exposed this landscape. Just after the opening a man came and begged me to reserve him the painting as he would come immediately to pay me the full amount.
There were numerous people who tried to buy this painting during the days that the exhibition took. But I refused all the offers and waited the first man. Even though, some offers were higher than the actual price.
The exhibition ended up and I didn’t see again the first man. It was at that moment when I learned a great lesson: the best offer is instant cash.
