I was quite excited when the Mayor summoned me to the Birmingham Museum of Art to paint his portrait. Imagine my surprise, being unfamiliar with the local customs, when I saw him for the first time dressed in full official attire, ready to pose.
After several hours of painting, we decided I would complete the finishing touches at home. The Mayor wanted the details of the chain, passed down between mayors, to be clearly depicted in the portrait. So, a City Hall employee brought the chain to my home for several days to allow me to finish painting it.
It's impressive how heavy a piece of jewelry like that can be.
